New developments: 7/3/09

  • CBC Radio 2 has started a "Summer Road Trip Playlist" series, weekly releasing a new playlist of road trip songs, picked by a Canadian celebrity. Kurt Browning's got the kickoff playlist for today, Friday July 3, offering 15 songs, along with his notes on each song. Kurt fans will recognize several of the songs (and artists) on Kurt's list. Check it out: Take a Road Trip...With Kurt Browning. Thanks to Alice for the pointer!

  • since 6/25/09:

    • Battle of the Blades has been getting a lot of press in the last few days due to CBC's press release. While many of the articles simply repeat the press release, some are more extensive and talk to some of the hockey players and others. I'm adding links to some of the more interesting ones on the Battle of the Blades event page.

  • since 6/23/09:

    • More information about the Battle of the Blades show that Kurt Browning is hosting this fall on CBC has been released. The Kurt Files now has a Battle of the Blades event page to track information about the show. It will air this fall starting October 2009 on CBC.

    • I've added a 2009-2010 Events Page to the site, which currently includes information on Battle of the Blades and three Disson shows. This will be updated as I get more information.

  • since 5/15/09:

    • Kurt Browning will be performing in the Blades of Hope skating show on May 23 at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook, NL. The show benefits the Daffodil Place, a facility for cancer patients and their families. For more information, click here.

    • CBC's new "Battle of the Blades" show pairing hockey players and figure skaters in a "Dancing with the Stars" type competition was the brainchild of Kevin Albrecht, who thought a show with people who actually knew how to skate might be interesting. Kurt will interview people in the kiss 'n cry and occasionally skate within the show. Tapings will be open to the public. More information to come.

    • For those interested in following Kurt's choreographic work, he worked with Tugba Karademir, Kevin Alves, and Vaughn Chipeur this past season, and will be working with all three of them again next season in some capacity. He also choreographed Patrick Chan's new Coldplay exhibition to "Viva La Vida," which Patrick has performed at a number of recent shows.

    • In case anybody was wondering, the third program Kurt performed to at the Levis Club show a few weeks ago was an improvised number to "Expectation and the Blues" by Corb Lund.

    • The Stars on Ice stop in Calgary, AB on Friday night was Kurt's 200th show with Stars on Ice. Congratulations on 200 great shows with the Canadian Stars on Ice tour!

    • Kurt's two programs with Stars on Ice this year are I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, and Spirit of Adventure by San Jose Taiko.

    • I've added the 2009 Canadian Stars on Ice program to the Stars on Ice Tour History page.

  • since 5/4/09:

    • Having just gotten back from Toronto I haven't had time to catch up with reviews, articles, etc, or to write a long review. However, my after-show impressions review of Toronto & Hamilton is up on the Kurt Files' bb. Photos and full review to come.
